Resting is a Revolution: What We Can Learn From Nature and Seasons and How Capitalism Doesn’t Honor Rest with Brenda Moreno
Do you give yourself permission to rest or are you always trying to do more?

Capitalism teaches us that we should be in perpetual summer, constantly doing and producing, but Mother Nature teaches us something different: the importance of honoring our seasons of rest.

Join me and Brenda Moreno as we reflect on getting in tune with our bodies and honoring our need to rest. As the trees let go of their dead leaves, think about what you might need to let go of before you can move forward into your spring and summer.

Brenda identifies as an anti-oppression practitioner. She was born in Mexico City but was partially raised in India. She’s traveled the world, attending middle school in South Carolina, high school in Wales, and college in Massachusetts. After Hampshire College, Brenda experienced diverse roles in advocacy as a youth program coordinator at a refugee resettlement organization, later as a bilingual counselor for survivors and victims of intimate partner violence, and finally as a peer recovery coach.

What We Cover in This Episode:

  • Why capitalism doesn’t honor rest
  • What we can learn from the patterns of the seasons
  • Letting things go in order to make it through storms ahead
  • Allowing change to happen over time
  • How to honor rest without guilt
  • The value of breath
  • Getting in tune with your body
  • Finding safe and supportive work environments

If you don’t pause to rest and realign yourself, how are you going to survive? Capitalism demands more of us all the time, but we just weren’t built to keep running without rest. Brenda is here to make sure that you are listening to your body and giving it the rest that it needs.
